Efficiency of Movement




The open Kettlebell class experimented with a few parkour moves Wednesday afternoon! They learned how to move over an obstacle by jumping over it or raising themselves on to the structure and moving forward.

Parkour Elements Have Started!

Enrolling in a Parkour Elements sessions is required as a prerequisite to be able to enroll in any of CrossFit Central's Parkour classes. It is a one hour personal training session where we can cover the basic movements in a controlled environment. You will receive personal attention so that when you train outdoors you will feel more confident having already laid your foundation in the gym. AUSTIN (KXAN) - Action movies are known for their scenes with the big foot chases.

While movie magic may make the action stand out, it turns out that type of running can actually be done by almost anyone. It's called " Parkour ," and here in Austin, it's part of a new workout class.

"Parkour is the art of getting from point A to point B, wherever that may be, using only human potential to prepare yourself through any given landscape," said Randal Setzler, a Parkour instructor.

Setzler teaches Parkour here in Austin.

"It's almost like chess and how you think three or four moves ahead, you know," said Setzler. "By the time you're at your first vault, you're already seeing what your next three or four steps are going to be."

The idea is to continually move through a landscape by jumping, vaulting and rolling to get to your destination. Not even a 10-foot wall can get in the way.

"You see a 10-foot wall climb and you think, 'There is no way I can do it,'" said Aaron Arehart, a Parkour participant. "And then he'll show you how to do it."

On YouTube , there are all sorts of examples of extreme Parkour , from flips to jumping across buildings. That's what got Parker Sheridan, 11, interested in it.

"I saw it on the Internet, and I thought it looked really cool," said Parker.

While he's not doing anything extreme, his parents are OK with the sport, since it is a good workout. After you learn the technique, you should be able to escape from just about anything.

"We find some way to overcome any obstacle that we experience," said Setzler

This past weekend I did a little photoshoot with Robert Miller. Robert attends the Kettlebell Unlimited class at 12:15. We often motiviate and push each other in class but on ths adventure he got to work his magik behind the camera and I got to get my jump on... The first steps..

This is the first parkour video I came across some 3-4 years ago before I fully understood what parkour is. This was the catalyst for my decision in becoming a full time practitioner of movement as well as a traceur. It features David Belle the founder of this art, and my hero in movement. The vibe of the French rap rivels the energy of the traceurs. This is one of the videos I keep in my "inspiration library" which I pull from and play regularly. I can't be still after watching it! It makes me do tuck jumps in front of my computer! When I close my eyes I return to vaults, jumps, and rolls I have experienced in my pursuit of fluid environment interaction. It also takes me to places I have yet to train. It makes me feel connected to traceurs and treceuses globally. Watch, enjoy- for we are all one.

Parkour Workshop for Beginners Feb 15th


Parkour- The art of efficiently moving through the environment using only the bodies abilities to overcome obstacles.

On Feb.15th I will be hosting CrossFit Central's Parkour Workshop. It will be designed for beginners and will cover things like- the parkour philosophy, concepts on efficient movement, how to land/fall safely, protective rolls, vaults, and how to overcome various obstacles.

What: CrossFit Central's First Parkour Workshop
When: Feb. 15th 11-1pm
Where: Undisclosed location- *upon signing up details will be released to participants*
Cost: $60
Why: This is a unique opportunity to learn new ways to apply your crossfit abilities, gain a better understanding of body mechanics and proprioception, and it is incredibly fun!

Class size will be limited to 10 participants. This event is open to the general public as well as the CrossFit community so reserve your spot before someone takes it!
